E3 Chief Medical Researcher Javier Davila and Medical Assistant Jennifer Kreshak are using the OLYMPUS Digital Microscope to analyze blood smears drawn from E3 Team Members.


Chief High Altitude Physician Dr. Ken Kamler and Dr. Nicholas Craig provided treatment to long lines of villagers during the trek to base camp. Kidney and Gall Bladder images, as well as this urine Gram stain, assisted in the diagnoses of cases presented to the E3 Medical team.

Dr. Christian Macedonia, E3's Director of Medical Research, performed Ultrasound Imaging in the diagnosis of cases presenting to the clinic. Yale Radiologist Dr. James Brink and Dr. Leslie Scout were able to provide consultation in real time from the Yale site.

A female climber with a past medical history significant for hypothyroidism presented to the E3 Clinic complaining of fatigue and weakness. Dr. Christian Macedonia captured ultrasound images of her thyroid which were reviewed at Yale by thyroid surgeon Dr. Ronald Merrell and thyroid specialist Dr. Gene Burrows.

Using a digital opthalmascope, E3's Chief Opthalmological Researcher Dr. Jennifer Grin obtained images of retinal hemorrhage suffered by a team member who had complained of a decrease in color vision. The images were reviewed by Dr. Bruce Shields, Chairman of Yale's Opthalmology Department, in real time from the Yale site.
